"I came to college to study for an SNC in Forestry, and continued on to pass an HND in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry. By taking advantage of the flexible learning programme I was able to do additional units, which allowed me to go on to gain a BSc in Forestry and Conservation. The decision to go back to full-time education was not an easy one for me, as I am severely dyslexic. But with the understanding and help of the well-trained staff at Inverness College I was able to show my full potential. I even managed to pick up a couple of awards on the way."

BSc Sustainable Forest Management

This degree aims to give you all the skills and knowledge you need to be a competent forest manager, capable of providing professional advice to the land-based sector. At the end of the course, you will have a technical management qualification and experience in every aspect of conservation and forest management.

Throughout the course you will be expected to take part in site visits and extensive field work, including an annual week-long tour to examine different types of forest practice in other areas of Britain and Europe. Work placements are also a significant part of the course with students building a year-long placement into their study programme.

You will be encouraged to undertake a number of management projects throughout the course, including an environmental impact assessment.
This combination of classroom teaching, project and practical work will give you a thorough understanding of woodland ecology, conservation, forest management and silviculture, as well as developing the personal and professional capabilities that enable you to function more effectively in the workplace.

Should you wish, you can exit the course after level one with either an HNC in Forestry or Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, or after level two with an HND in either of the two programmes above.
